KINSHASA – President Paul Kagame was among several African Heads of State attending the 50th Anniversary of DRC’s independence in Kinshasa on Wednesday.

Dignitaries and Congolese citizens at the celebrations were treated to an impressive military parade that showcased efforts by the DRC to build a professional armed forces.

In his keynote address at the ceremony, President Kabila paid tribute to the founding fathers of an independent Congolese state and ordinary citizens who had sacrificed their lives for the nation’s liberty.

Kabila outlined his country’s aspirations for the future which include moving beyond consolidating peace and stability to transforming the DRC into an economic powerhouse in the region.

He also highlighted the importance of regional cooperation and integration to his country’s development.
